UH Wahine to visit Big Island

The Rainbow Wahine volleyball team will hold an open-to-the-public practice at 10:30 a.m. March 16 at Hilo High’s gym with an autograph session to follow.

On Sunday, March 17, the Wahine will hold two free clinics at UHH gym: for grades 4-8 at 9 a.m. and for grades 9-12 at 10:30 a.m. The clinics are limited to the first 100 participants.

UH will hold a practice at 4 p.m. after the clinics, and an intrasquad scrimmage will follow at 5 p.m. an autograph session will follow.

Bullying, hazing talk

B. Elliot Hopkins, a national high school bullying and hazing prevention speaker for over 20 years, will hold at talk from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 at Kamehameha. The talk is sponsored by the Department of Education and Kamehameha.

Kinoshita PacWest golfer of week

UH-Hilo senior Jared Kinoshita was named the PacWest golfer of the week after he finished 13th in a field of 76 at the Bay Area Invitational over the weekend.

Kinoshita led the Vulcans to a ninth place finish and earned his third conference award of the season with a 3-over 219 total.

The Bakersfield, Calif., senior has an 18-hole average of 71.47 this year with a best of 65.

Waiakea run/walk benefit

The Waiakea High sophomore/junior class benefit 1.5-mile run/walk race will be held 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Ken Yamase Memorial Stadium, sponsored by Sunrise Athletics and Lorela King.

The first 100 registered participants will receive a drawstring bag. Fee is $15 for 5K run/walk and $10 for 1.5 mile run/walk. Only ages 5-13 will qualify for awards for 1.5-mile race.

All proceeds will go toward a designated family or organization experiencing a hardship due to loss of a home, extensive medical expenses and other difficult situations.
